I'm on my way to Seattle right now. Browsing an old hard drive that I just got back from last summer and I found this gem. I think the photo's original source is off someones facebook page.

I was waiting for for a wheelchair at the check in counter and got impatient so I decided to crutch it. Bad choice. I went to the gate for my next flight (C10 in SLC) instead of my departure gate from RNO (amateur hour). Two times over through security taking off my brace and hoping through the metal detector, I feel like an idiot. Here's to overheating in the airport.

Climbing Free

Today I finished Climbing Free by Lynn Hill and Greg Child. If you don't know who Lynn Hill is, you should probably go look her up. She's one of my biggest inspirations as an athlete. Known as a top sport climber in the 80's, Lynn made the first free ascent of the Nose Route on Yosemite's El Capitan.

One of the reasons that I think she's such a badass is that she puts a lot of guys to shame when she climbs and always had the mentality that she is an equal in the athletic world, she proved it. Climbing Free has been a perfect book to read while I'm injured. It made me want to work that much harder to get back to where I was at before this happened.

If you're interested in Lynn, climbing, or sports autobiographies, I highly recommend this book. It's entertaining and impressive. Plus Lynn Hill kicks a lot of ass.

Family Photos.

Awkward family

This family photo is rad. I don't think it's awkward at all. Nonetheless you should check this website can get a pretty good laugh out of me when I'm sitting in bed drinking protein shakes. Is that awkward? My P.T. told me to gain weight and chug protein to heal. Don't worry, I haven't been packing the pounds, just bulking up in a good way. I have anti muscle on my surgery leg, but I get to put weight on it on Thursday. It's gonna be a big day. See ya later crutches!!! Hello muscle!!!

Went to the beach the other day and got burnt on my surgery leg. No one told me it was sensitive to sun. I put sunscreen on my scars though. Then I hung out with Chamillionaire (his real name is Yoshi). He eats maggots and changes colors.

Spring Showers...

really do bring May flowers.

Planting bulbs and waiting all winter to see the flowers gives me the same feeling as developing film. I love the wait, the anticipation, and sometimes forgetting what you planted or what you took a photo of in the first place. I just finished a roll of medium format film...I have no idea what I took pictures of. It's been a while. I'll share when the time comes...

Cody Rosenthal had surgery today for a recently broken L3 vertebrae in Reno. I don't know much about his accident (happened at Super Park), but I do know that he's an amazing person and totally rad snowboarder. If you've ever ridden in Mammoth, chances are you've seen him around.

Anyways, he doesn't have Health Insurance and as you can imagine, this will be a costly fix.

Give a little here.

Join the group here.

Lot's of love and good thoughts heading you way Cody!!!

Update from his facebook group...
Cody's surgery went very very well!!!! He has two metal rods on each side connecting to his L2 and L4 to support and take the pressure off the broken L3 vertebra. It just time for him to heal and keep giving him positive vibes and motivation! thanks again for all the support you all have given him. Also thank you for all the donations so far!

Pretty Sketchy.

I just read this article written by Jason Santa Maria and I have no idea why my text is underlined, but I'll go with it. Anyways, it made me feel better about my sketch book which is totally random. I've gotten a kick out of a lot of Jason's articles. Check his site out.

These are good sites and good causes...

Alpine Initiatives...I've posted this site numerous times and tried to keep people updated on recent happenings within the Alpine Initiatives organization. As the seasons are changing, I figured I would mention it again. A.I. is constantly working and learning a lot about running a non-profit organization, which is a lot more work than you can imagine. Check their site out to see what kind of a positive impact they have worked toward in Kenya building a community home.

1 Step...Mark Abma recently launched 1 Step. 1 Step is working toward sustainability directly related to winter activities. Yet another great organization started within the ski community.

Riley Poor's Recovery Blog...In case you haven't already been following Riley's recovery closely, his blog gives you personal insight into his accident and life on the road to recovery from a serious spinal cord injury. If you are in Colorado be sure to stop by the benifit taking place today, Saturday, May 2nd, from 9PM - 2 AM located at West End Tavern (926 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO). There will be a $15 donation fee which includes drink specials and free beer. An auction will also be a part of the benifit with lot's gear donated by athletes, photos by photographers, and even Nikes among other things.

Shane McConkey Memorial Site...Find out ways you can help the McConkey family.

Just watched this teaser on the Porters site. It got me psyched, but it doesn't take much these days.
