On May 6, 2008 Chile's Chaiten volcano erupted spewing lava and blasting ash more than 12 miles into the sky. I was in Argentina in mid July and there was a noticible cloud of smoke still present from the eruption. The volcano had been under for 9,000 years. These are pictures from the eruption. I thought they were amazing.
